Book tells their stories

Weather and the Science of Settlement is out now, available through the Royal Society for the Blind

Weather influenced almost everything that the first European settlers in South Australia did. This book tells some of their stories and shows how the weather affected their lives. These were real people, doing real things, with hopes, fears, successes and failures. They led interesting lives.

It was a time of great social change in Britain and of economic development. Steam technology was transforming industry and transportation. It was a scientific age.Settlers brought the new social attitudes and a scientific approach with them.  They wanted the colony to reflect the new ideas, not replicate the old order.

They were curious about everything. They were open to new ideas, to new experiences and they were ready to test each and every one of them.

The book is published by the Australian Meteorological Association
